This watch has recently been in my workshop for a service.

This is a wonderful example of a WW2 Luftwaffe Glashutte Tutima chronograph and it is No.202152

The case is in heavy nickel-silver plate over brass and it is in excellent overall condition.

The outside of the rear case cover has the engraved watch/movement number 202152

Inside of the rear case cover has the machine stamped wording 'WASSERGESCHUTZT' (water resistant) along with manufacturers name and location 'UHRENFABRIK AG. GLASHUTTE (Sa)'.

The watch has a Urofa 15 Ligne Calibre 59 chronograph movement with 21 jewels, mono-metallic screw balance and self-compensating Breguet hairspring. The movement has the matching number to the case number.

The early quality watch movement has mercuric gilt plates and bridges plus fine regulation.

The fitted plexi-glass is the original glass fitted to the watch from new.

The original crown is the rare extended type and is in very good condition.

The watch movement was removed to allow for a lubrication service and photography

Early WW2 Tutima Watches in this condition are very rare and are now extremely difficult to find for sale on the open market.

This watch has recently been in my workshop for a service.

WW2 Luftwaffe Glashutte Tutima chronograph No.200900 .

The case is in heavy nickel-silver plate over brass and is in remarkable condition.

The outside of the rear case cover has the engraved watch/movement number 200900.

Inside of the rear case cover has the machine stamped wording 'WASSERGESCHUTZT' (water resistant) along with manufacturers name and location 'UHRENFABRIK AG. GLASHUTTE (Sa)'.

The early quality watch movement has mercuric gilt plates and bridges.

The fitted plexi-glass is the original glass fitted to the watch from new.

The original crown is the rare extended type and is in very good condition.

The watch was stripped down to every component part followed by cleaning, inspection, rebuild and lubrication.

A new mainspring was fitted as after 80+ years the mainspring can assume a permanent set and lose power.

The watch was then rebuilt followed by testing and adjustments for timekeeping and chronograph functionality.

The original strap was restitched and restored.

Early WW2 Tutima Watches in this condition are rare and are now extremely difficult to find for sale on the open market.

Richard Kunzler was a very interesting character who was employed at the Royal Observatory for many years.

Here are some words regarding his history which I found on the Royal Observatory web-site :-

During the 1914–18 war the “Admiralty” was most anxious to purchase as many chronometer watches as possible provided they were capable of passing the acceptance test.

Robert Kunzler one of the best suppliers was a native of Switzerland, born near Le-Locle about 1870. He was a student at the Le Locle Technicum and after becoming a journeyman travelled in Germany before arriving in England about 1900.

He worked for a time at the Erhardt factory in Coventry but it soon became apparent to him that no one in England understood or was very competent in the art of Springing and Adjusting. He decided to return to Switzerland for a special course in high precision watch adjusting at Le-Locle. After completing the course he returned to Birmingham, England, and was employed at the Waltham Watch Co., in Great Hampton Street.

He later decided to go into business on his own as a Watch Springer and Adjuster, he would do this work for other makers. He was a close associate of J. W. Player and Forrester two famous makers at the time. Forrester was also Swiss.

Kunzler was soon submitting watches in his own name to the “Observatory” and by 1912 he was having his own movements made by Pybus at Prescott. These were mainly of the famous 3/4 plate type with centre-seconds suitable for the Admiralty Chronometer Watch. He had of course the best of Coventry and Birmingham workmen to assist in making his watches. The escapements were made by Smith, jewelling by Collingbourne, and the finishing was done by White. Kunzler completed the watches by doing his own springing, adjusting, and rating to high standards.

During the 1914–18 war he was most industrious completing watches in record time and delivering them to Greenwich. After the war the Admiralty had little demand for navigation watches but Kunzler was always well employed servicing his own watches which were always satisfactory.

I have recently had two very interesting watches in my workshop which originally belonged to Ob.Ltn. Paul Rudolf Opitz - one of the key figures involved in the development of the ME163 rocket interceptor aircraft during WW2.

Joe Anderson in the USA has been a passionate collector of Hanhart and Tutima watches for many years and he sent me watch No.203947 for research work we were doing in January 2022. Joe had purchased the watch ten years previously from a seller in the USA. The seller had himself purchased the watch from a small USA auction house where the watch was sold in a group lot of old mainly broken watches for very little money

The watch has the name Ob.Ltn. Opitz inscribed on the inside of the case back.

In parallel with me examining the watch in detail to find the date on the rear of the dial Joe and myself began researching the fascinating career of Rudi Opitz and his participation as a Test Pilot in the development of the ME163B.

Joe Anderson was able to contact Michael and Martin Opitz who are the sons of Rudi Opitz. Both sons live in the USA.

Joe’s enquiries to Michael & Martin led to them searching through stored furniture, belongings and paperwork inherited from their Father to try and find missing paperwork relating to his career.

During the search a second Tutima watch (No.207406) belonging to their father was found.

Michael & Martin are active glider pilots themselves and decided that they would like the watch to be restored to working order so that it could once again return to the skies as a fitting tribute to their father.

I will next give details and pics of the two watches starting with the first watch - No.203947 owned by Joe Anderson :-

This watch was partially dismantled in my workshop in order that I could view the information on the back of the dial. While the watch was dismantled I took the opportunity to carry out a lubrication service.

W+B refers to the dial manufacturing company Weber & Baral, Westl. Karl-Friedrich Strasse, 91-93, Pforzheim, Germany. These premises were completely destroyed in February 1945 by RAF and USAF bombing raids.

The date 19.2.43 refers to the date on which the dial itself was manufactured.

The significance of the code ST 8 is not yet fully understood but is thought to probably be a contract or batch number reference.

As can be seen from the above photos the watch needed cleaning, repair and servicing when found.

One pusher cap was missing and it was evident that the watch had been used for some considerable time with the cap missing.

The original glass had been forced forward out of engagement with the case and was jammed in the bezel.

The watch was completely dismantled and all parts cleaned and inspected prior to reassembly and lubrication.

A used original replacement pusher and glass were also fitted.

My brother Martin and I had never really spoken to Dad about his wartime watch(es). We knew that the one which he wore until it became unusable in the late 1960's was his wartime watch, but not much else about it.

When Joe Anderson contacted us about having a watch (#1) with what appears to be Dad's signature inside the case back, we initially thought that ours might be missing. Upon searching around, we found the watch (#2) that we are familiar with stored in a small box in Dad's old desk. Upon consulting with Andy and Joe, it was determined that our watch (#2) has a serial number indicating a manufacture date of late 1943 – early 1944. The serial number on Joe's watch (#1) dates to earlier in 1943 and the dial back has the date 19 ^th February 1943, so Martin and I started trying to piece things together.

Dad's occupations as a test pilot, and as a combat glider pilot, both basically required that he would have an accurate wristwatch with stopwatch capabilities at his disposal. What watches he wore from when he was first drafted into the Luftwaffe as an instructor for combat glider operations in November of 1939 until he first acquired watch #1 is pure conjecture at this point, but my guess is that he probably went through several of them due to being in several accidents / incidents along the way. During the first half of 1943, he was involved in flight testing several different aircraft. It appears by virtue of the serial number / production date of watch #1 that he acquired this watch during that time period. His signature actually changed fairly significantly over time, but the inscription inside the watch case back seems to match up at about ~80% (in my own personal opinion) to several of his signatures that we have on hand from that time period. We also need to take into account that when our Father put his name into the watch case he was writing his name rather than putting his signature and the confined space inside the case back was restrictive.

We think that the following photo of our Father at a wedding is of the correct period for him to be wearing watch No.1 :-

By the beginning of August 1943, the British had discovered the Peenemünde rocket test center and had bombed it. In order to prevent any further disruption of Me 163 operations, it was decided to disperse the fleet and move some Me 163s. On 18 August 1943, Dad was tasked with flying an Me 163a (with a known inoperative hydraulic landing skid) to the nearby bomber base at Anklam. Unfortunately, the bombers there had left deep ruts in the grass runway so that while Dad had made a smooth landing, the Me 163a started getting bounced by the the ground ruts. This set up a harmonic slapping effect as the Me 163a was slowing down. The slapping got harder and more violent as the velocity of the aircraft slowed down. At that time, there was no spring in the seat in order to mitigate these forces, so the hard slapping concentrated directly on Dad's spine thereby cracking a couple of vertebrae in his back. The end result was that he was relegated to bed rest for 8-10 weeks at the Anklam airport clinic while his back healed. Dad tolerated this regimen for a few weeks until he decided that he could be on bed rest back in Peenemünde while also supervising further Me 163 flight testing from a bed in the clinic there. The Anklam staff would not release him, so he “appropriated” a Fieseler Storch mail plane (while its crew went inside for lunch), and flew himself back to Peenemünde.

In pulling this stunt, he left the clinic clad in just his hospital gown while holding a few pillows which he needed to pad the Storch seat because of his back. He left all of his clothes, etc back at the Anklam clinic. We believe that he may have also left watch #1 there with his clothes. When the Anklam clinic discovered what he had done, they were furious and told him not to come back, so he never went back to retrieve his belongings. Presumably, someone at Anklam wound up with watch #1, with that watch somehow coming into the hands of US forces and eventually making its way to PA, USA. We presume that Dad then bought watch #2 in late 1943 – early 1944 to replace watch #1. He was back on flying status by November 1943, so he would have needed to have a watch by that time as a minimum. He did have a very bad wreck on 25 April 1945, and then another one in Dec 1965 – both while wearing watch #2. Those two wrecks probably account for a significant amount of the damage that watch #2 sustained over the many years that he wore it.

Martin and I were very happy to find Andy as he is very experienced in repairing these Tutima watches. It provided us with the chance to have the watch restored to a good working condition again after all of these intervening years. We think that Dad did not have it repaired because he didn't know who would have the requisite knowledge and expertise to repair it as opposed to damage it further than it already was, so he just left it as it was. We are sure that he would have been happy to see us put the watch back into its rightful place in the air once again once we got it back from Andy.

This watch has had an interesting life since it was first purchased by the UK Ministry of Defence in September 1906 for £5 !

Details of the history of the watch are recorded at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich London.

Initially used at the Coloba Observatory in Bombay the watch was later serviced by the well known watchmaker Sidney Better and went on to do service on the Nelson Class Battleship HMS Rodney, the S Class Destroyer HMS Scimitar and HMS Salmon which was an S Class Submarine.

The watch is still working well and keeps excellent time after 122 years since it was made in 1900 !

Dial with black Roman numerals blued spade hands, centre seconds, chemin de fer chapter ring and outer minute track, the outer rotatable front bezel in black marked out in degrees with case mounted locking screw at 1 o'clock, the Swiss unsigned mechanical crown wind movement with onion shaped winder, the base metal case, 62mm diameter, with screw down back, verso engraved H^S.4.

The watch is housed in a plastic case marked STORES REF H.S.527-3638. The case is designed so that the watch can be dashboard mounted and easily demounted for maintenance etc..

This type of watch was used by the Fleet Air Arm in Fairey Swordfish aircraft during WWII. The 1941/1942 Admiralty Manual of Navigation describes this style as a beacon watch, only to be used in aircraft fitted with an R1147 radio receiver.

Aircraft carriers were equipped with a revolving beacon that continuously transmitted second pulses, making a full rotation once per minute. The crucial feature of this system was that the beacon emitted a different sounding signal when it was pointing due north.

Prior to launch, (these planes were catapulted into the air), the observer would tune the radio receiver to the beacon and set the bezel of the watch so that zero on the outer scale and the tip of the second hand aligned precisely at the time of the northern signal. When returning to the carrier, the observer on board the aircraft would turn on the radio and listen for the beacon's signal.

The strongest reception would be experienced when the beacon was pointing directly at the aircraft and, using the watch, the aircraft's position relative to its carrier could be found and the pilot given the course to take. The great benefit was that these slow aircraft could home in on their carrier from up to 100 miles away without sending out radio signals that may betray their position to the enemy.

In 1937 Hector Golay & Son Ltd of London were the only importers of Universal watches and chronographs and supplied the Ministry of Defence with dashboard mounted navigation watches such as this example. H^S.4 designation is described as a 'Dashboard Watch'.

This watch was purchased earlier this year from a private collector in Germany.

The watch is in superb original condition and it is working very well - keeping very good time.

The watch winds and sets time correctly and the chronograph mechanism is operating and re-setting perfectly.

The stainless steel case, bezel and pusher caps are all in excellent condition.

The hands are all original. The stainless steel hour and minute hands retain their original lume.

The dial is in wonderful condition and the dial numbers have their original lume which has aged in colour.

I removed the movement from the case for inspection and photography.

I took the opportunity to carry out a lubrication service while the movement was out of the case.

I have lubricated the rotating bezel.

The watch is fitted with an original black leather BUND strap which has the NATO stock number markings 6645-12-145-6415 and the word ‘Bund’ embossed into the leather.

The condition of this watch is quite remarkable for an issued watch and I doubt that a better example exists anywhere unless someone has got one that was never taken out of its box !

This is a watch that I recently restored for a customer.

As you can see from the 'before' pics below the watch pushers were missing. Also the balance hairspring had been pulled out of shape.

The watch had been used a lot and the bezel was partly worn away !

WW2 Hanhart single pusher Cal.40 wristwatch No. 105XXX - full restoration:

Restoration of this watch was quite a challenge - as you can see the pusher tube was severely damaged and needed to be replaced.

There were many parts that were either completely missing or worn out.

I have detailed below the work that was done.

SOLD: Illinois Depollier US Army Watch

Rare early US Army issue Illinois Depollier wrist watch circa 1918. Around 103 years old!

I am selling this watch for a long term collector in the USA who has had it in his collection for many years.

As you can see from the pics the watch is in original 'as found' condition and has not been restored.

Watch issue number is 03703 and the Illinois movement number is 3396360.

The watch is 35mm diameter ex the crown, 42.25mm including the crown and 16mm thick. Across the lugs is 43.8mm and the lugs are for a 16mm strap.

The case is in good condition but the black enamel coating is chipped and worn away in several places.

The movement looks to be in good shape with no obvious corrosion evident. The case has done a very good job in protecting the movement over the years.

The watch is working but would require a full service and general clean up should a future owner want to get it running 100% correctly.

The watch can be wound and set but the mechanism is worn and needs work to get it functioning smoothly.

I have included a copy of an original advert which mentions how watches with these cases were adopted for use by the Signal Corps of the United States Army. In the case of the advert the movement is Waltham.

Very interesting and historical timepiece which is sold 'as is' with no warranty and no returns.

SOLD: Wempe B-Uhr with 2nd Pattern Dial

Very nice condition Wempe B-Uhr with 2nd pattern dial.

Watch has been completely stripped down to every individual part, cleaned, rebuilt and lubricated.

Case, dial, hands, crown and movement etc. all original and in excellent condition and the watch is working very well.

Plexi has some minor crazing but it is original - can be renewed by me if preferred. The crazing marks you can see in the pics are in the plexi and not on the dial which is in great condition.

The strap is an original strap that has been cut down in size at some stage in the distant past and a smaller buckle fitted. The original straps were very long to enable wearing the watch over a flying suit. I have had the strap re-stitched and restored and it is now in great condition a very nice feature of the watch.

I have disabled the 'stop seconds' feature as I have found that this feature where a spring contacts the side of the balance every time the crown is pulled out is responsible for a large majority of the watches that come to me with broken balance staffs. The very fine balance staff pivots on these watches are very easily bent/ damaged which can seriously effect the running and accuracy of the watch. All the parts are still fitted to the watch and the function can be easily reinstated if required.

For sale is a WW2 Wempe B-Uhr Luftwaffe Navigation watch.

Watch number engraved on rear cover is No. 546 .

Original 1 ^st pattern dial indicating production prior to June 1942.

Overall diameter is 55mm and 18.30mm thick.

Nice clean Thommen Cal. 31 movement with fine regulation, running very well.

The watch winds smoothly and the 'stop seconds' function is working correctly (to enable synchronisation with another timepiece).

Replacement brown leather correct pattern strap in excellent condition.

Overall a nice watch in very good condition.

19 ^th Century Steel Chronograph Pocket Watch

This is a very rare chronograph watch dating from around the end of the 19 ^th century and is in excellent condition.

1/5 second, time of day centre seconds chronograph pocket watch.

Oxydised steel open faced case. Snap on bezel, hinged back and cuvette.

The watch measures 58mm external diameter and 86mm to the top of the bow. Thickness is 18.5mm. Weight is 110gms.

White enamel dial with outer chapter ring indicating 0-300 1/5 seconds in black Arabic numerals. Inset lower centre recording sunk minute dial 0–30 arabic numerals (anticlockwise). Upper centre sunk dial recording time with hours and and minutes in black Roman numerals. Sweep seconds, minutes and time recording hands all in gold colour.

Keyless winding at pendant with push piece to set hands at 5 second marker. Further push button in case side at 20/25 seconds position (original function possibly to operate split seconds facility but the hand for this function is not fitted to watch).

The Swiss movement is in good clean condition and the calibre is Huguenin US Patent NO° 263 411 dated 1882.

All parts of the watch are in excellent undamaged condition and the watch keeps good time.

Photos of this actual watch can be seen in Konrad Knirim's book on British Military Timepieces Page 433 where it is identified as being for Navigation or Artillery purposes.

SOLD: Pulsar RAF / RN Issued Chronograph (00935/05)

This is an issued RAF/ RN Fleet Air Arm Pulsar Pilot's Chronograph dating from 2005.

The watch bears the NATO stock reference code 6645-99-9954268 on the rear casing along with the unique issue number 00935/05 indicating that it was the 935th such watch issued in 2005.

The watch is in good condition having had a full service with a new movement crystal and battery being fitted. The watch has also been pressure tested to 100m.

The watch measures 42mm OD including the crown, 39mm without the crown and 11mm in thickness.

The watch has a constant centre sweep seconds hand with registers for seconds and parts of a second at 6 and 12 'O' Clock respectively, with a minutes register at 9 'O' Clock.

The pusher at 2 'O' Clock starts and stops the chronograph functions working while the pusher at 4 'O' Clock resets the chronograph functions to zero.

The stainless steel case is in very good condition with just very minor marks from service usage.The case has fixed bars for use with a NATO style watch strap.

The dial, hands, case and crystal are all in excellent condition. All functions are operating correctly.

The watch will be supplied with a grey NATO strap as originally supplied for use with these watches

Lovely Omega WWW writwatch for sale.

This watch is one of the watches that comprise what is commonly called the 'Dirty Dozen'.

The WWW (Wrist Watch Waterproof) watches were ordered towards the end of WW2 and were delivered in late 1945.

This Omega is in excellent condition having been recently serviced and having had a complete rebuild of the balance assembly. The watch is now running very nicely.

The watch has a very good condition case showing just normal signs of use - no unsightly scratches or digs. Original crown is fitted. Fixed bars are fitted as original with these watches.

The caseback is marked WWW and the broad arrow signifying Government Property followed by Y4237 and 10668436.

The 15 jewel movement is numbered 10218758 which is correct for 1945.

The original dial is in lovely condition with just a very small part of the 'railway track' missing between 2 and 3 but this does not detract. The dial lume has been renewed in antique colour lume in a few of the markers.

The original hands are in good condition and have been re-lumed in antique colour lume.

Plexiglass is in very good condition with no marks or cracks.

The watch is fitted with a 1940's NOS (new old stock) black leather strap of the type that was originally fitted to these watches.

This is a very good example of an Omega WWW and a great opportuity to acquire a watch that is continuing to increase in value.

SOLD: Royal Navy Series 3 Lemania Chronograph - (Issue No. 80297)

This is a luminous single button Series 3 Black Dial Lemania Chronograph as used by the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm and other branches within the Royal Navy and dates from the mid 1960's.

The rear case of the watch has the Broad Arrow marking followed by Admiralty Stores Reference Number 0552/924-3306 and the unique issue number 80297.

The case, dial , hands , crystal and movement are all original to the watch and are all in excellent condition. The original luminous tritium material on the dial and hands has faded with time but is all in very good and appealing condition.

The watch is 41.5mm diameter including the crown and 13.5mm in thickness.

The watch is working correctly and all functions operate as they should. The movement is the superb Lemania calibre 2220 and is in lovely condition although it has not been serviced during my ownership.

The watch has spring strap bars and is designed to take a 20mm strap.

Overall a very nice example of a watch which is becoming increasingly difficult to find in original condition and presents a good opportunity for the military watch collector.

SOLD: CWC Quartz Royal Navy 'G10' Wristwatch

Royal Navy issued quartz 'G10' wristwatch from 1989. The watch bears the NATO Stock Code 0552/6645-99, 5415317 and issue number 45247 with the year of issue number 89 for 1989. These are the generic wristwatches which are issued across all 3 services and are renowned for being tough, accurate watches. This particular watch can be seen to be issued within the Royal Navy from the 0552 designation within the NATO Stock Code number.

The watch is issued status but has never been used and hence is unmarked. Difficult to find in this pristine condition!

The watch measures 38mm diameter including the crown and 41.5mm across the lugs. The watch has fixed lugs and would normally be worn on a NATO style strap.

I have 5 of these watches in stock with issue numbers in the same range - all ex Royal Navy, all in unmarked condition!

For sale is a wonderful 2 button Hanhart Luftwaffe chronograph from WW2.

I have recently finished restoration of this Hanhart.

The watch is in superb condition having undergone a complete restoration.

The movement was stripped, cleaned and rebuilt with a new mainspring and oiled.

The case has been stripped and refurbished with the nickel plating renewed to match the original plating on these watches.

SOLD: Stowa WW2 Luftwaffe B-Uhr Navigation Watch 2nd Pattern Dial

Here we have for sale a wonderful totally original 2nd Pattern Dial Stowa B-Uhr.

This watch has lain completely untouched in a drawer since being brought back as war booty from Germany by a Captain in the British Army following WW2. I am selling the watch on consignment for the current owner who is the son of the Army Captain. His Father landed in Italy during WW2 and eventually fought his way right through Germany to Berlin. The watch came back with him to the UK on his return from the war.

The watch number which is engraved on the front and back of the rear cover is No. 5871 and the matching number is engraved on the movement.

The dial is 2nd. pattern indicating production after June 1942.

The dial is in wonderful original untouched condition as are the original blued steel hands. The hands still have all of their original radium luminous paint which is most unusual with these watches.

The original plexiglass is in excellent condition but has yellowed slightly with age. Should a future owner prefer it then a replacement plexiglass can be fitted no problem.

Overall diameter is 55mm and 19.00mm thick.

Lovely clean Unitas calibre 2812 movement, finished in nickel plate and with 'Geneva stripes'. Fine 'swan's neck' regulation. The movement is in good condition and running very well.

The watch winds smoothly and the 'stop seconds' function is working correctly ( to enable synchronisation with another timepiece).

The strap is very interesting in that it is the modified lower part of the original strap. The original straps were bulky and extremely long resulting in there being lots os spare strap left flopping around when on the wrist. A previous user of this watch has employed a very practical modification which allows the end of the strap to be looped over the crown. If a future owner prefers I can provide a very nice German made brown leather strap which is a very accurate reproduction of the original.

The Stowa B-Uhr watches are not seen for sale as often as the Laco / Wempe etc. types. The 2nd pattern dial variant of the Stowa is extremely rare and this is the first example which I have seen for sale.

This is a great opportunity for a collector to acquire a superb example of a watch which is set to increase in value as more and more collectors become aware of these fine timepieces which are such a wonderful piece of military history.

SOLD: WW2 Luftwaffe Glashutte Tutima Chronograph (No.205831)

For sale is a very nice WW2 Tutima chronograph serial number 205831.

The serial number dates the watch to the 1942 middle production phase when the watches were produced with silvered plates and bridges and brass wheels. The watch has fine regulation which was a feature that was replaced with a more basic design later in the war.

The watch is in good working condition having been recently serviced. The chronograph mechanism functions correctly.

The case is nickel plated over brass with a screwed caseback and a ribbed moveable bezel. The case and bezel plating has wear in places consistent with the 70+ years age of the watch but has a very pleasing patina with no excessive polishing or damage. Both pusher caps and the crown have loss of plating with the brass showing through. The bezel turns freely and smoothly.

The plexi-glass is non-original and the hands have been re-lumed but have an aged look to them quite in keeping with the age of the watch.

The watch has a good quality riveted brown leather strap fitted which has been custom made to be very similar to the original straps fitted to these watches.

SOLD: WW2 Luftwaffe Glashutte Tutima Chronograph (No. 212167)

For sale is a WW2 Tutima chronograph serial number 212167.

The serial number dates the watch to the late war production phase when the watches were produced with nickel silver plates (unplated) and brass wheels. The watch also has the later simplified regulation arrangement which was common for this period.

The dial is in excellent condition and being late war does not have the Tutima logo. We know from copies of intelligence reports that the dial production companies such Weber & Baral (W+B) and Wilhelm Cammart (W+C) at Pforzheim were heavily bombed towards the end of the war – perhaps this caused the changes in dial production?

The watch is in very good working condition having been serviced around a year ago and the mainspring has been replaced. The chronograph mechanism functions correctly.

The plexi-glass is non-original and the hands have the original lume still in place. I have the original plexi which has fine stress marks in it and it will go with the watch when it is sold.

SOLD: Laco WW2 B-Uhr Luftwaffe Navigation Watch

For sale is a World War 2 Luftwaffe Laco B-Uhr Navigation watch. These watches were issued to Luftwaffe bomber crews for navigation purposes during World War 2.

The watch number, which is engraved on front and back of the rear cover, is No. H15306 and the matching number is on the movement.

The dial is 2nd pattern indicating production after June 1942.

The dial is in superb condition as are the original blued steel hands.

The hands still retain 100% of the original luminous radium paint which is quite unusual as more often than not the radium has partly dropped out or been replaced.

The case is in excellent condition, as with most of these watches the original protective paint cover has worn away with time revealing the original case plating.

At some stage during it's 70+ years life an owner has lightly scratced their initials (GS) on the rear case. This is lightly done and does not detract from the overall superb condition of the watch. I have seen many WW2 German watches similarly engraved and this was often done by Servicemen returning home with their booty after the war.

Overall diameter is 55mm and 20.75mm thick.

The movement fitted is the original numbered Laco Durowe Cal.D5. The movement is in lovely condition and is running very well.

The watch winds smoothly and the 'stop seconds' function is working correctly ( to enable synchronisation with another timepiece).

Replacement brown leather correct pattern strap in excellent condition.

SOLD: Royal Navy CWC Split Seconds Chronograph Stop Watch (132/77)

Royal Navy open face steel split second chronograph stop watch by CWC.

Steel bright chrome plated case in excellent condition with few signs of use. Rear case has Admiralty reference number 0552/521-6482, Government broad arrow and issue number 132/77 showing that it was the 132nd such watch issued in 1977. Case is 55mm diameter ex the crown and the watch is 15.8mm thick.

Matt white dial with black arabic numerals and marked Swiss made. Main outer dial chapter ring marked for elapsed time 0-60 secs and graduated at 1/5th second intervals. Top sub dial showing elapsed time 0-30mins and lower sub dial marked 0-60secs showing Sold constant time. Dial is in excellent unmarked condition.

Hands - sweep black elapsed time seconds recorder and red split second recorder. Sub dial hands both black. All hands in excellent condition.

Swiss made CWC 15 jewel chronograph movement in pristine unmarked condition - not serviced during my ownership but all functions are operating correctly and accurately.

Issued Royal Navy issued chronograph stop watch in very good overall condition.

For sale is a WW2 Wempe B-Uhr Luftwaffe Navigation watch.

Watch number engraved on rear cover is No. 828 . 1 ^st pattern dial indicating production prior to June 1942. Slight ‘spotting’ can be seen on the dial when viewed at certain angles but a nice original dial.

Overall diameter is 55mm and 18.25mm thick.

Nice clean Thommen Cal. 31 movement with fine regulation, serviced and running very nicely. The watch winds smoothly and the 'stop seconds' function is working correctly ( to enable synchronisation with another timepiece).

SOLD: RAF CWC Chronograph Wristwatch

This large chronograph was issued to the RAF and was used by RAF Pilots and Navigators. This example bears the stores reference number 6BB/9243306 and the unique issue number for this watch which is 4437/74 indicating that it was the 4437th such watch issued in the RAF in 1974.

The matt black dial and hands are all original and in excellent condition although the luminous properties have of course diminished with age. The luminous material on the dial has faded to a very pleasing light coffee colour

The case measures 40.30mm diameter including the crown, 45.35mm across the lugs and is 12.84 mm thick. The case has fixed bars for a 20mm style NATO strap. The watch is currently fitted with a black leather strap of a type which I have seen fitted to ex MOD watches before and may well be a Ministry issued strap.

The case shows some very minor marks from service usage but is in overall really excellent condition and the original factory finish can still be seen. I have not re-polished the watch as I prefer to leave cases generally in as found condition.

The original armoured plexi-glass with tension ring is fitted and is in good clear condition without any visible scratches or damage.

The movement is the Valjoux 7733 chronograph movement common to these chronographs. The movement has not been recently serviced but all functions are operating correctly and the second hand snaps back to the 12 'o' clock marker as it should. The watch is keeping good time.

Overall an excellent large ex RAF chronograph in very nice original condition and a good opportunity to acquire a difficult to find genuine timepiece.

SOLD: Omega Seamaster Ploprof 600

Stunning original and virtually unused example of Omega's iconic diving watch from 1970 - The Omega Seamaster 600 Ploprof (Plongeur Professional).

Developed in conjunction with the diving company Comex and the legendary Jacques Cousteau, Omega conceived and developed what was probably the first waterproof watch designed and built solely for the diving professional.

The watch took 4 years to develop and come to the market after extensive testing and arrived in 1970. It was nicknamed Ploprof by the French speaking development team and derives from the French term PLOngeur and PROFessional (Professional Diver).

Comex used early models of the Ploprof and continued their research into living underwater for prolonged periods.

This watch is as close to mint as you are likely to find one of these. The majority of these watches have been used for what they were originally intended - diving! Hence they normally exhibit the inevitable signs of use associated with this physically demanding sport/ profession. All the surfaces and edges on this watch are virtually as the day it was first taken out of it's box. If you look at the photos closely you can even see that there are still the vestiges of the original protective coating in place which normally vanished after the first couple of trips under the water!

The watch has not been serviced but all functions are operating correctly and it is keeping excellent time. If it is intended to dive with this watch then it should be tested first to ensure that it retains it's designed waterproof integrity.

No box or papers.

This watch has what is known as the 'D2' dial which is the dial most sought after and preferred by collectors.

The whole watch - dial, hands, case and bezel are all virtually unmarked and as new.

Many examples of this watch you may see for sale have been repolished to remove the scars of decades of use and abuse - hence the cases have different profiles and sizes from the original. This watch has sat in a time warp for the last 40 years awaiting it's new owner!

SOLD: Hanhart WW2 Luftwaffe 2 Pusher Cal.41 Chronograph Watch

This is a really exceptional example of a two pusher Hanhart chronograph which dates to around 1945 - right at the end of WW2 or maybe just post war.

The watch came from the German family of the original owner who was a technician at the Rechlin Luftwaffe Testing Site during WW2.

The watch was overhauled by the renowned German watchmaker Frank Roesky in 2009 at a total cost of 1050 Euro.

The watch measures 41mm diam ex the crown and 14mm in thickness.

Case

Examples of this type of watch often have damaged and worn plating or in many instances have had the plating replaced. This example has original plating which is as intact as any example I have ever seen. It is in truly superb condition all round with only minor signs of wear. The caseback is stainless steel which is a major improvement on the earlier examples of this type of chronograph which often have plated brass casebacks which suffer badly from wear over the decades of use.

Earlier examples had the movement number on the caseback, this example does not which is a key factor in helping identify its date of production.

Dial & Hands

Beautiful original dial in stunning condtion. The hands are in the same lovely condition.

Movement

Fully serviced in 2009 – and the service documents from Frank Roesky detailing all work completed will be included with the watch sale. The Cal.41 movement works flawlessly and is in top class condition having been used very little since it was serviced. The movement number is 130475.

Replacement plexi in the original style in undamaged and unscratched condition

Strap

Genuine mid brown leather strap by Frank Roesky in excellent condition. These straps closely resemble the original straps and are very well made.

SOLD: Hanhart single button ex WW2 Luftwaffe chronograph

This is an ex Luftwaffe single button Hanhart chronograph as used by the German pilot's during WW2. The watch dates from late 1940 or early 1941.

The dial is very nice and original and the lume has aged beautifully. There is what appears to be very minor loss of paint in a couple letters of the writing or it may be dirt but does not detract from what is a super original dial.

The original hands are in lovely condition with completely intact but aged lume.

The case shows wear to the brass in places including the bezel but overall it is very pleasing and exhibits a look of being well used but also well cared for during it's 70 years of life. Stainless steel caseback has the number 107865 which matches the movement number fitted.

The crystal is probably the original and has a few marks but as it is original I would not recommend it being changed.

Movement - recently cleaned and serviced cal.40 movement which is in very good working condition.

Overall diameter is 39.6mm and the watch is 14.7mm thick

A new dark brown leather strap by Frank Roesky has been fitted.

Overall a great example of an iconic watch that is a real piece of history.

SOLD: Rolex Submariner 5513 1970

This is a civilian Rolex Submariner model 5513 similar to that used by the British military.

The watch was purchased by me from the top Rolex dealer James Dowling in the year 2009 (papers supplied to purchaser).

It has the cal 1520 movement with 26 jewels and hacking feature. The dial has the larger than average lume indices which is known as a 'maxi dial'.

The watch was serviced at Rolex Bexley via my local authorised dealer in September 2009 at a cost of £565. The certificate will be supplied to purchaser.

The case, dial, hands etc. are all in excellent condition.

The bracelet is the correct 93150 model with diver's extension piece. It has 12 links plus a spare and is in very good condition.

The watch runs very well and keeps good time.

Royal Navy Black Dial Lemania 2 Button Chronograph (Issue No. 4143/75).

This is a superb and rare example of a 2 button Lemania Chronograph. These watches were only issued in the years 1975 and 1976.

Case, dial, hands, crystal and movement are all original and in excellent condition.

The watch is working correctly and all functions are operating as they should. The movement is the superb Lemania Calibre 1872 which although maintaining accurate time has not been serviced during my ownership.

The watch measures 42.5mm diameter including the crown and is 13mm in thickness.

Very few of the 2 button model ever come up for sale and this presents a rare opportunity for the military watch collector.

This watch was bought new in March 2003 at Bowden & Sons Ltd. in Plymouth UK.

Steel case with 18 Carat gold fluted bezel. the case is in good overall condition with a few minor marks from wearing which could be polished out if required.

Screw down 18 Carat gold crown which operates correctly and is in very good condition.

RAF Issued Pulsar Quartz Chronograph

This is an issued RAF/ RN Fleet Air Arm Pilot's Chronograph dating from 2004.

The watch bears the NATO stock reference code 6645-99-6052627 on the rear casing along with the unique issue number 00004/04 indicating that it was the 4th watch issued in 2004.

The watch is in good condition having had a full service with new crystal and battery being fitted. The watch has also been pressure tested to 100m.

The watch measures 42mm OD including the crown, 39mm without the crown and 11mm in thickness.

The watch has a constant centre sweep seconds hand with registers for seconds and parts of a second at 6 and 12 'O' Clock respectively, with a minutes register at 9 'O' Clock.

The pusher at 2 'O' Clock starts and stops the chronograph functions working while the pusher at 4 'O' Clock resets the chronograph functions to zero.

The stainless steel case is in very good condition with just very minor marks from service usage. The case has fixed bars for use with a NATO style watch strap.

The dial, hands, case and crystal are all in excellent condition. All functions are operating correctly.

The watch will be supplied with a new grey NATO strap as originally supplied for use with these watches

This is a great opportunity to purchase a genuine RAF issued timepiece in good condition as worn by Pilots of fast jets and helicopters in both the RAF and Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm.

SOLD: RAF Newmark Chronograph (363/80)

Ex RAF Newmark Chronograph

These large chronographs were issued specifically to the RAF. This example bears the stores reference number 6BB/9243306 and the unique issue number for this watch which is 363/80 indicating that it was the 363rd such watch issued in the RAF in 1980.

The matt black dial and hands are all original and in excellent condition although the luminous properties have of course diminished with age. The case measures 40.28mm diameter including the crown, 45.44mm across the lugs and is 12.20 mm thick. The case has fixed bars for a 20mm style NATO strap.

The case shows some very minor marks from service usage but is in overall excellent condition. I have not repolished the watch as I prefer to leave cases generally in as found condition.

The original tension ring plexi crystal is fitted and is in good clear condition without any visible scratches or damage.

The movement is the Valjoux 7733 chronograph movement common to these chronographs and has been fully serviced. All functions are operating correctly and the second hand snaps back to the 12 'o' clock marker as it should.

Overall an excellent large ex RAF chronograph in very nice original condition and a good opportunity to acquire a rare timepiece. These Newmark chronographs are difficult to find as they were issued in much smaller quantities compared to the more commonly seen CWC, Precista and Hamilton variants.
