WW2 Hanhart single pusher Cal.40 wristwatch No. 105XXX - full restoration:

Restoration of this watch was quite a challenge - as you can see the pusher tube was severely damaged and needed to be replaced.

There were many parts that were either completely missing or worn out.

I have detailed below the work that was done.

Before Restoration

After Restoration

Movement restoration:

  • Complete strip down to each individual part followed by cleaning and inspection.
  • Broken hammer stud drilled out and plate thread restored.
  • Balance assembly and hairspring - replacement staff manufactured & fitted. H/S spring reshaped.
  • Balance bridge – broken H/S securing stud screw drilled out and bridge thread restored.
  • Movement rebuilt and following replacement parts supplied and fitted

        - Hammer stud (broken)

        - Hairspring securing stud (broken)

        - Mainspring (worn)

        - Chronograph hammer assembly (missing)

        - Chronograph sliding gear assembly (missing)

        - Chronograph pillar wheel indexing spring (broken)

        - Chronograph 5 spoke driving wheel (worn)

        - Chronograph coupling clutch assembly (worn)

        - Crown wheel and centre core (worn)

        - Clutch wheel & winding pinion (worn)

        - Setting lever & set screw (broken)

        - Movement lubricated.

Case restoration:

        - Pusher tube drilled out – replacement case tube manufactured, plated and fitted (original damaged)

        - Complete pusher assembly comprising pusher cap, seal, washer, screw, spring and tube supplied and fitted (original assembly worn / missing)

        - Crown (non-original type was fitted)

        - Winding stem (original stem was cut short to suit non-original crown)

        - Plexi-glass (NOS original glass fitted)

        - Case cleaned

        - Movement to case clamps – replacement clamps and screws supplied and fitted (original clamps missing and wrong screws fitted)

        - Rotating bezel assembly removed, cleaned & lubricated

Watch re-assembled:

        - Dial cleaned 

        - Hour & minute hands lume stabilised

        - Replacement sweep secs hand supplied & fitted (wrong type was fitted)

        - Replacement sub-dial hands supplied & fitted (missing)

        - Case cleaned

        - Custom brown leather strap supplied and rivet fitted (missing)

  • Watch set to work
  • Watch tested and adjusted for time keeping and chronograph operation (best achievable) 
  • A full photographic record was taken of the restoration
